The UK's Premium passport service is the fastest way to get a new passport — but not everyone qualifies. Before you book, it's important to understand the eligibility requirements so you don't waste time or money on a service you can't use.
What Is the Premium Passport Service?
The Premium service is offered by HM Passport Office and allows eligible applicants to receive their passport on the same day as their appointment — typically within 4 hours. It requires attendance at one of the UK's designated HM Passport Office locations, either in person or via a concierge representative.
Who Qualifies for the Premium Service?
To be eligible for the Premium service you must meet all of the following criteria:
- You must be an adult — aged 18 or over. The Premium service is not available for children's passports.
- You must be renewing an existing UK passport — not applying for your first passport.
- Your previous passport must be available — you will need to submit your old passport as part of the application.
- Your application must be straightforward — complex cases involving name changes, damaged passports, or certain nationality situations may not be eligible.
- You must have valid passport photos — meeting all official HM Passport Office specifications.
Who Does Not Qualify?
